Went to Kenilworth Middle @ 1980 with a guy who was absolutely just like Bender on the Breakfast Club in almost every way. You would have thought they'd used him for the model.
So that character rang true for me, at least in casting the 80's type they were going for with Bender.

Loved them all.
I can still hear Plimsouls, Payolas, Oingo Boingo, Talking Heads, Billy Idol,etc..blasting away..Deborah Foreman, Molly Ringwald, Mary Stuart Masterson, Lea Thompson,etc..in big hair.
