Wouldn't this be more useful to charity if people donated money instead of dumping ice on their head?

They do donate. Since the challenge has been going on almost $4MM has been raised for ALS research. In that same time span last year, only $28,000 was raised.

I heard it on the radio, it must be true.

They still donate $10 when they dump the ice on them. If you choose not to do it though you have to donate $100.

What I'm confused about is how the ice water challenge stuff has popped back up with ALS, after people were doing this several months ago for various other charities like wounded warrior and American heart.
