The only good albums he made are the ones Reznor produced. I agree Antichrist Superstar is really good, Portrait of an American Family is decent too. He did a good job keeping his name in the news during the late 90s, that really helped his popularity.

As for other shock rockers, ICP was really hated back then but never got quite as big as him. Still they put out a few platinum and gold albums and headline a festival with 10,000+ people every year. I can't see Manson doing that today.

Basically I think Manson was all image and very little substance.

I lean toward that, but go back and listen to mechanical animals (highly underrated, and funny bc I hated it when it came out) and HolyWood (no one ever talks about this one either and it's amazing, fueled by the columbine crap he got)

Both if those are just as good if not better than AC and I love that album, and actually those three albums are a trilogy and are of the same story, in reverse order, it's pretty damn brilliant if u can sit through them all and follow the characters he made.

quote:

The Triptych comprises three records Marilyn Manson released between 1996 and 2000: 1996's Antichrist Superstar, 1998's Mechanical Animals and 2000's Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death). Each album represents some semi-autobiographical aspect of Manson himself, and although made up of three records, it is considered one body of work by Manson and the fanbase
