Aside from cost, there would literally be no down side. Although now that I think about it, personal camera equipment seems like a much better investment for police departments than MRAPs, body armor and grenade launchers.

I'm with you, if they can afford shoulder to air rockets and armored Humvee's, they could better spend their money on camera's. The camera's would give a real view to the situation compared to the SOMETIMES blurred and one sided story, keeps everyone honest.

This seems like a reasonable area for the feds to provide grants. Prioritize it so that the areas in most need (high racial strife, low trust in police) get the funds first.
