Why on earth should this be "secret" anyway?
A PUBLIC SERVANT killed a member of the PUBLIC and we can't know who?
I'm not even saying he did anything wrong. I am simply saying to keep it from "us" is fricked up.
Safety? pffft....we all knew who Zimmerman was, etc.
frick our 'keep the public in the dark' overlords.

I think it's reasonable given the public response to date that the name be withheld until the investigation is completed.
It shouldn't be withheld forever.

Agreed. Is there some protocol here, at the very least, that is being followed? not that it would excuse keeping this information from the public, but I am at a loss as to the basis (sufficient or not) for not releasing this information.
As for safety, I suppose that could be a reason for as long as it takes to dispatch a security detail to the officer's house, but no longer. As the chopper jock noted, we knew who George Zimmerman was, and he was a private citizen!
