My kindergarten teacher recommended to my parents that I be held back based on maturity. I guess my mother thought that being held back in k-5 suggested something about intelligence and sent me on because I was a bright kid. I think that the extra year and confidence I would have gained from being a year older would have done wonders for me academically in the long run. I always had trouble in high school prioritizing schoolwork until I got older.


I personally know 5 families who held their kid back in K-5 an extra year or waited to start them until they were six. They all cite the exact things you discussed.

How many of the dads are man enough to openly admit that is is so their kids will have an advantage in sports?

Your argument is invalid. Alabama is an outlier state for kids needing to be held back.

The rest of the country told ya'll that it was "maturity" and "confidence" issues. But we all know the real reasons
