When did the Crusades occur in relation to the founding of Islam, and the jizya? The jizya dates back to the time of Muhammad who came centuries before the First Crusade. The Crusaders merely flipped the roles on who would pay the tax.

If the actions of the Crusaders is justification for ISIS behavior, then weren't the Crusaders justified by the prior behavior of Muhammad? So even if your principles apply, ISIS is acting upon guidance they get from the Quran as the original source for the jizya. They are following the teachings of Muhammad, whom they consider to have been acting on instructions from Allah. So their bad actions are based on Islam despite your attempt at a trite dismissal.
