Yeah, it's crazy how how similar a modern group is to how people acted almost a millennium ago. You can't be serious comparing the actions of people now to then.

We should be worried about Crusaders, you're saying?
The crusades never ended for the brain washed extremist.

If America wants to help, it should offer those fleeing the violence in Iraq the ability to seek refuge in the United States—and promise those who stay behind that it will never ever bomb them again.
Your article closes with this. No. I don't want those crazy frickers being admitted over here.

Not comparing them at all. One group is using somthing they think was used against them in the past. It really is not that difficult a concept to grasp. It is not that they are acting simular, they are using it as a direct reprisal for a percieved injustice.

quote:When did the Crusades occur in relation to the founding of Islam, and the jizya? The jizya dates back to the time of Muhammad who came centuries before the First Crusade. The Crusaders merely flipped the roles on who would pay the tax.
For those interested in history this is a play directly from the crusaders playbook. Christians imposed a tax on Muslims in Jerusalem to remain Muslim. For those who only want to whine about ISIS go ahead. Bad Muslims.... how dare they
If the actions of the Crusaders is justification for ISIS behavior, then weren't the Crusaders justified by the prior behavior of Muhammad? So even if your principles apply, ISIS is acting upon guidance they get from the Quran as the original source for the jizya. They are following the teachings of Muhammad, whom they consider to have been acting on instructions from Allah. So their bad actions are based on Islam despite your attempt at a trite dismissal.

No attempt at a trite dismissal, just an attempt to illustrate this is not a new concept in the region and has been used by both sides before.

I notice you replied to some others.
Can you reply to my request? Thanks.

quote:Really, I don't suppose you could point out where you stated that Muslims had done this before? You said this was "a play directly from the Crusaders playbook." There is no reference to any but current Muslim actions in that statement. You most definitely did not mention that the Crusaders borrowed the play from the Muslims.

quote:I understand that working from the present to the past is confusing for some. Maybe if I reversed the sequence you might better comprehend my argument. As for the facts, they were established in the preceding paragraph.

Muslims believe Muhammad was the prophet of Allah, and Muhammad received instructions from Allah. Those instructions were codified in the Quran which is the source of Islamic laws such as the jizya. ISIS are Muslims who use Islam as justification for their actions. Thus, when ISIS assesses the jizya they are following the teachings of Muhammad as codified in the Quran. ISIS imposes the jizya because they believe it is the will of Allah, not because they were inspired by the acts of the Crusaders centuries ago.

Any specific reason for you to think this, has it ever been stated before by anyone other than yourself? It does look better without all the suppositions though.

Yes Muslims have done this before as have most other faiths in some sort or other. My point is this act is neither new nor only used by any one group in the past.

I'm too tired to start with you now.
Besides, I have to plan my strategy for kicking arse in the poli board FF league.

Acadien, thanks for the link. I did read it. I don't agree with all of his points but did with many. My main criticism is that he didn't really answer the question of what to do.
