Talent or Experience?

You cant teach talent.
When all else is equal experience is important, but I'll take talent over experience any day. This is part of the reason that I don't think Moo State will be any good. Yes they have experience at key positions, but I'm not a believer in their overall talent. Same with Ole Miss. I believe our talent level is much higher than those two teams, the games are at home, therefore, W!
Most people who's job it is to predict college football (the media) put to much value on experience. They like to sell you known commodities. Basically, they say that if you return your QB and you have known players at key positions then you will be good. Not always the case. i.e. Auburn 10', A&M 12', FSU 13', ect. When I look at a team, I look at the last 4 recruiting classes and judge the actual talent on the team. In a nutshell, our talent will prevail!!!

Depends on the position.
When it comes to defense in general, I will take experience over talent any day of the week.

I'm going to get grilled for this, but the reason why I'm not super confident in our ability to compete for an SEC championship this year is that Les Miles' teams don't really overachieve. The years where we've been great, we have started the season with high rankings and expectations. That's not to say we can't get 9 wins, maybe 10 (if balls bounce our way) with a bowl game.

You need both to optimize success, but given a choice, talent>>>>>experience.
Kragthorpe, as a RS Junior with a coach for a father, has had plenty of practice experience. He will never start a game at QB for LSU (to be fair, he wasn't brought on the roster to start at LSU).
B. Harris is a true freshman. He may start game 1, but at the least will play a significant role this year.
Talent trumps experience.

Talent without experience is the problem. Once these kids get experience (get the feel for the game, adjust to the speed, make the adjustment to realizing that what worked in hs won't always work in college, & realizing that the talent gap is not nearly as wide as it was for them in hs-they aren't the only "superstar" on the field), then their talent will shine through. Once they learn to respect the talent on the field, they then learn how to play at this level.

Players are coming in more ready now than they were 10-15 years ago.
Some graduate early.
Allowing them to come in the summer helps as well because strength coaches can lock them down at that point.

Do not get talent and rating confused. We have had a great number of 3 star recruits come in and show far greater talent from day 1 than some of the 5 stars. The players do not rate themselves, so don't blame an over rated player for under achieving if he gave his best effort.
Look at Texas last year, all 3 draft eligible classes were ranked top 5 and they had nobody drafted.
That being said without much talent, all the experience in the world is not going to help against a far more talented player.
