ISIS leader a former US Detainee?

Watching segment on CNN talking about it.

They said he was captured by US forces in 2004 as part of AQ but deemed a non threat and later released.

First I've heard of this

This is why I've always thought Gitmo was a bad idea. Either execute them after we've extracted intel, put them on trial and sentence them swiftly, or release them after interrogation. Releasing them after multiple years at Gitmo does nothing but make the Islamic rock stars who have nothing to lose and can be very influential.

No flame bro, but seriously? This has been a comment from the start of this current crisis. I don't bring it up because it is 20/20 hindsight. No rationale person says "Hey, I think you are going to form a major terrorist organization - let's set you free."

I am not going to give into the administration bashing on this issue.
