From what I have read (mind you have not watched any videos as I want to be surprised when I finally get time to play it) the triggering of certain events seems to only happen @ certain times, to certain runs of the game.
Some simulated randomness would go a LONG way to making a game actually suspenseful and intense as opposed to just jump scares.
Eta: someone on reddit allegedly messed with a screenshot in a photo editor to manipulate some light levels and make the screen look more realistic
May be spoilers, idk
