Well we're talking about AP teaching, not the college classroom. Granted I went to high school in New Orleans, but I noticed no "leftist bent" when I took two AP history classes. My teacher was /is a Republican, to my knowledge. The texts, from what I call, were pretty standard and objective but it wasmore of a lecture-style class than anything.
I can't speak for classrooms in Berkeley.

I have seen (and taught) AP course materials and they are not far at all from college-level US History in terms of content and ideology.

I did. I remember having a very brief argument with my teacher when she asserted that the new deal ended the great depression. That's a fairly minor point, but it underscores the bent referenced in the OP.
