Rand Paul = Democrats’ Enemy #1

Daily Beast
It's also a problem for establishment GOP.
This is what I've been saying. If he can maintain discipline, he has a shot.
quote:
The senator’s broad appeal threatens to weaken Democrats for 2016, and they are going on offense—sending out no less than 10 press releases on his latest trip to Iowa.
Democrats fundraiser and campaign by exploiting concerns about right-wing extremism. But at least at the moment, what they apparently fear most is the rise of a candidate who could potentially poach enough of their supporters to beat them in 2016. -
quote:
Democrats began hitting Paul on Monday morning, first for fundraising with Iowa Rep. Steve King, who has entertained the idea of exploring impeachment (something Paul has said he would not consider); next for claiming he never proposed ending foreign aid to Israel (which he openly supported doing for years); and then for saying Republicans don’t want to ban birth control and that he is “in favor of the concept” of a federal ban on gay marriage.
quote:
The most fun the DNC had, understandably, was with an incident that took place at a Monday-night fundraiser with King, when Paul was caught on video getting up—mid-bite into his hamburger—and practically running away from two immigration activists. (He gets an everyman point for taking his drink with him.)
The DNC snarked that the senator’s swift exit was a “profile in courage” and later sent out an email detailing some of the best headlines the moment generated, including “Rand Paul Flees in Terror from Mexican Immigrant,” and “Watch Rand Paul Run for His Life Before Steve King Insults an Immigrant in Iowa.”
quote:
“He’s working not to get out of the conservative box but to redefine it,” Simon Rosenberg, president of the New Democrat Network, told The Daily Beast. If Paul gets the nomination, he becomes the effective leader of his party—meaning his redefinition of that conservative box could become the definition, a problem for Democrats, as Paul has a tendency to stake out atypical positions for a conservative and reach across party lines.
It's also a problem for establishment GOP.
quote:
The Democrats’ strategy to defeat Paul seems to be to engage him as he tries to gain experience, with the hope that he’ll misspeak his candidacy to death before it gets off the ground. “This is smart politics for the Democrats,” Rosenberg told The Daily Beast. “What you want to do as opposition is you want to go after the candidates when they’re inexperienced…We saw a deeply inexperienced candidate [in Iowa]...and a lot of early scrutiny could really weaken him.” Or so the left is hoping.
This is what I've been saying. If he can maintain discipline, he has a shot.

He's the GOP's only viable option.

Which will IMO go after him with more venom than any Dem could hope of.

He is clearly maturing as a "candidate". This most visible from the exchange on MSNBC regarding his civil rights act comments. Sadly, elections are won on soundbytes and you can't afford to have a macaca moment before the campaign really begins.

After 8 years of this disastrous presidency I'd think anyone has a shot. Hell just Obama's getting elected in the first place shows anyone has a shot.

The Dems will slam whomever they fear the most. For now, it's Paul; but there will be a ton of change in two years. God only knows what will come down with the feckless Obama a the helm. Obama...is their worst problem.
Re the Immigration thing...Rush nailed it yesterday. Obama feigns action (amnesty) and the Dems falsely try to spook the R's into passing a Bill...because both know that the American people are AGAINST it...and whomever has their name attached to it...faces electoral suicide. Just like they needed Bush to sign that massive '08 bailout...so Obama wouldn't have to bear responsibility.
Paul ought to step up and say as much. NO REFORM of any kind...until that Border is in LOCKDOWN. Period. And not the Obama version of 'period'.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconspank.gif)

The only attack of merit is his flip flop on aid to Israel. The fleeing the immigrant thing is crap but most people will gobble up the MSM bullshite and not watch the video to see that the press was right there and it was obvious they asked him to go with them so he got up and left.
When did Paul say he supported a ban on gay marriage? I've never seen him say that anywhere

RReading this makes me happy. I'm a conservative.
I always feel like dems can't do the same when something threatens their party. They treat it more like their favorite football team. Is that fair to say?

The biggest political weapon a candidate has is the ability to brush off the negative, any negative, and move forward.
Rand has that. He'll be president in 2016. GOP will cave, they just want a win

Bring it on. The more attention he gets - the more he'll be exposed as the plagiarist and racist he is. No to mention he'll have to do the inevitable swerving back and forth between moderate conservatism and total right wing loonery to win.

Dems understand what Rand is. He's an ideological juggernaut that is very politically savvy and can win an election with his broad appeal to groups that the typical republican doesn't have access to. Thats a motherfricking nightmare for democrats in the business of winning elections.

He'll never make it past the social cons in his own party, IMNSHO.
