Major carmakers experimented with HUD's a decade ago but for whatever reason didn't go through with it.

I'm sure the law enforcement community was concerned about distractions while driving. I mean, its not like we dont fly million dollar airplanes with HUDs.

I have no basis in fact for that assumption.

Actually quite a few European auto makers offer it as an option. I have a HUD in my car and I rarely ever look at the speedo, the Nav screen, or the radio because everything can be viewed and controlled on the HUD.
