solving a major plot problem of an initial film in the follow-up is not necessarily a good way to go about things

so solving a major plot problem is not a good thing? yet, if they ignore it, people still get pissy.

What?

You don't make a second film to solve a problem that should not have existed in a first film. The problem still exists...in the first film, it doesn't go anywhere. People are pissy because they ignored it in the first film. Solving it in Part 2 does not make Part I a better movie.

But now they will waste time on it in the second film. It would have been better had that kind of scene been on the cutting room floor and they released some sort of "Uncut" version with it.
