You think this new-found "positive attitude" may have something to do with the fact he can opt out after this season? This guy is just dumb enough to think he can get a better deal elsewhere and opt out...please let this happen!

And now I have my answer.

In the words of The Offspring, "It's cool to hate."

It's hard to think Gordon is in the long term plans the way they talk, or rather don't talk, about him.

I don't glean that from that quote at all. He listed our 5 players with recent injury issues. Gordon's are the least-recent.

I dislike EG as much as the next guy, but if he plays 80%+ of the games this year and plays well, I'll be loving myself some EG

It's not the singular quote, it's the continuation of a pattern of Gordon not being prominently mentioned. Most times he isn't mentioned at all, but Monty was talking about injury so it's hard to forget about Gordon in that context. I just think there is plenty of evidence saying they want him gone, I certainly wouldn't expect to have him brought back anywhere close to his current salary level. If the team does well (2nd roundish) and Gordon opts out, do they keep him around for $8-$9 million? That's a tough call. With his injury history and a need at SF, I'd say move one, but we have to see how solid this for sure playoff team is.

I hope he plays lights out and we move him at the trade deadline. Unless we feel like we can make the WCF, we should move him before he tears his vag again. Those cap dollars will allow us to lock up EVERYONE, and with the new cap, add a legit SF. By 2016 we could be looking at multiple runs at a ring with a ridiculous core 5.

and the obligatory, frick you Sandy...

I don't think anyone expects that.

Honestly, depending on how big the cap increase is, they could possibly sign a SF, then bring back Gordon at that $8-9M and Asik using Bird Rights. Gordon at $8M is not bad considering the market this year.

The one stumbling block I could see is Gordon's cap hold will be bigger than the contract he gets. I assume we'd have to renounce his Bird Rights to take that big hit off the books to go after a FA, but wasn't the Parsons situation similar and they had the option to use Bird Rights after renouncing him to make a push for Bosh?

if Gordon plays well enough for us to want him back there is no way we get him for $8-9M per year. not after what we've seen this past FA period

eta: unless there are some kind of exceptions or exemptions or salary cap numbers voodoo that makes that possible. i'm not too learned in all that tomfoolery

I've never hidden the fact that I can't stand that jackass. His ridiculous salary coupled with the lack of production have set this franchise back.

The sooner he's out of here the better.

Parsons cap hold was really small because the cap hold is based off of your previous deal. Even after Dallas threw a near max offer sheet, I think Houston got to work with the original cap hold. Regardless, we can't renounce Gordon's cap hold and then use Bird Rights to sign him. If Gordon opts out and we bring him back that means we're happy going after a DeMare Carroll/Gerald Green/MLE level SF. And considering the RFA SFs like Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler are a bit unrealistic, Gordon + Carroll might be a better option than Jeff Green for roughly the same amount of money.

It would be nice though if this jackass could show a shred of humility and tell someone that he regrets the comments he made during his free agency. I don't think he realizes that he could pretty much have the city forgive him if he simply said he handled that poorly.

For fricks sake it was YEARS ago at this point, who cares

I thought so, but wasn't certain. Now, what if we signed him for the $8M? That would reduce our payroll by $7M, except that Asik's cap hold will be $12.5M, bringing the payroll over $63M. Doesn't seem like we'll be able to create much space.

Yeah, SF is a fairly thin position in the league. There aren't many available in FA to command more than the MLE.

If we're going to end up using the MLE anyway, Gordon's salary only really counts to Benson.

It's not his salary as much as his reliability. Gordon + MLE SF vs. Jeff Green only goes against Jeff Green if Gordon is healthy and productive. Gordon has focused quite a bit on his fitness ever since he found that doctor in Chicago that got him back on track, so I think it's possible he's turned an injury corner, especially if the personnel on this team have him spotting up from 3 more than crashing through the lane.

Personally, no I don't. When you ask anyone sitting in the arena what they think about Eric Gordon, their immediate response is "he doesn't want to be here." Trust me, I knighted Gordon for quite awhile before I just realized that he isn't worth it.

Two things need to happen this year.

1. EG needs to play well and opt out.

2. Monty needs to play Reke at the 1 and Jrue/EG on the wing when we are on O. If I see that Monty has Reke hanging around on the perimeter I am going to kick in my television.
