I have no problem with a 17-18 year old kid taking his time to make a very important decision that will have an impact on the rest of his life.

Just from a players point of view, it sucks that Arkansas can withdraw scholarship offers the week of nsd to local guys. They have to scramble to find a spot somewhere.
I think it's good to take all of your visits for that reason alone.
Some kids aren't allowed to go on visits until after the season, so you can't blame them for waiting to decide.
There is a lot of confusion out there about committable offers. We've seen this with kids like Adam Taylor.
Then again, you have some kids pull a Janzen Jackson and purposefully sabotage a particular team.
All reasons for an early signing period IMO.
