Most of those making their decisions at all-star games are very highly rated. Teams hold spots open for them and then are forced to change their focus if the kid chooses a different school. The lower rated or under the radar type of guys don't really have the luxuries that the higher rated kids do in choosing teams. They're also often at the mercy of where the higher rated kids choose to go because they might be plan B.

That being said, some schools might not wait forever on plan 1A when plan 1B is ready to commit today. So while a kid can choose to commit on their own timeline, sometimes even the highest rated ones can't wait forever.

But I think it's all just the nature of the beast, really.
