Good grief.

Civilians take hits in conflicts despite the GC.

Not anything new.

Everybody here knows that, but do you personally believe civilians should betargeted? After all, it is supposedly U.S. position on civilians that distinguishes us from groups like Al Qaeda who believe civilians are fair game.

No and I doubt any here do. Of course the rub is combatants possing as civs.

And if we start threads over jackass statements be it from some guy in Upstate NY or some guy in Kabul this board will grind down.

Civilians should not be targeted. However, the presence of civilians does not make a valid military target off limits. This is the critical factor that most people are not taking into consideration. Hamas has made buildings legitimate military targets by using them to house Hamas fighters and/or store military equipment/materials. Whether they have turned all of the schools that have been struck by Israeli weapons into legitimate targets I do not know. It will be tough to prove one way or the other.

If Hamas uses a school for military purposes, how much time must elapse before that school ceases to be a military target? I don't know the Israeli answer to this question. I know they could apply a once tainted, forever tainted standard, but I would hope they are less absolute than that.
