These couples started a lot of problems in this country. The reason why society didn't even consider gay marriage for so long was because people understood that marriages were meant to have kids.
But you know what made these childless couples possible in the first place, birth control.
Before birth control (and legalization of it), infidelity and divorce were much less common. You know why? People couldn't hide their mistakes.

They fact that you could turn this into a gay marriage issue is baffling
Infidelity has always happened and will always be there. Birth control has nothing to do with it.
If people don't want kids then why does it make one bit of difference to you?

Nah cheating has been going on longer than birth control, unless you consider a coat hanger birth control. Now cheating is probably more rampant since dating sites on the internet took off

Birth control has been around since ancient times. The Romans used tied-off lamb intestines for condoms.
