"WASHINGTON, Aug 3 (Reuters) - President Barack Obama dismissed Russia as a nation that "doesn't make anything" and said in an interview with the Economist magazine that the West needs to be "pretty firm" with China as Beijing pushes to expand its role in the world economy."
Somebody please explain this to me.

I prefer them pretty soft.

What's the beef? Our two greatest geopolitical rivals are structurally--even inherently--inferior to us. I agree. Russia is literally a dying society, though they have substantial energy resources. China's system and program are unsustainable, and they really don't produce anything of value--unless we're counting shitty goods that can be made in Brazil or India in the next decade or so.

So, he's trying to turn USA into Russia, politically and economically, and the media focusses on words instead of actions...?

Energy resources and tech. Let me preempt you by ensuring that China doesn't produce tech. They reproduce copies that better industries develop.

How firm exactly is my question. I asked what time it is and you told me how to build a watch.

I don't know what the frick you're talking about, but I like this turn of phrase and will add it to my own repertoire.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't most of the really innovative tech coming out of S Korea?
I've yet to see anything come out of Beijing that is making waves on the world markets
One thing China does have is Western Dollars. Haven't they been buying a ton of debt on western nations, including us?

No. It's still coming from the States.

Well technically, copyright and patent infringement on a massive scale does make waves in world markets, but it's not especially innovative.

Love to see them call in their "debt". Would. Love. To. See. It.

Well, it's an interesting tactic to keep yourself in a position of power in the world without using things that go boom.
Although, we could do a whole other thread on what would happen of they actually did call in the debt.

I'll type slower so you can understand.
I want to know what the term "pretty firm" means. I'm not asking about Russia or anything to do with Russia. The term was aimed at China.
To repeat:" West needs to be "pretty firm" with China as Beijing pushes to expand its role in the world economy."

yet. They are setting themselves up for the future. I'm not sure if they have the right strategy for the future but I don't think they will be the same in 10 years for better or worse.

From the school of the "Everyone sucks more than we do" train of thought.
You emo? Do you cut yourself too?

So they're the nation equivalent of Apple Inc?

Why don't you send us a draft of your "approved" language for dealing with a nascent superpower. Maybe I'll comprehend that.

That'd be cute if you yourself were a teenager. Since you're not...not so cute.

It's funny you think China has nothing of value constraintconsidering their huge reserves of REMs that are necessary for that very tech.
As usual, your claims of being informed are wrong.

I doubt that. I asked a simple question.
I don't have a plan which I why I asked.
But I'm sure that you do.
Now we will all sit back and be entertained with your little ego show.
