Taking a quick trip with the old lady. Any recommendations where to eat/hangout?

The Boardwalk. Restaurants and bars all right there.

I like peg leg Pete's but it's been years since I've been to Pensacola

That boardwalk area is cool for both. Hemingways is nice. Pegleg Pete's and Flounders is cool/fun. Crabs is pretty cool. Back on the mainland, McGuire's is a must. Fort Pike is a cool hangout. The best seafood market on the planet earth is Joe Patti's if you're cooking.

I live in the 'cola so here goes:
On the beach there is a "Landshark" bar right next to the Margaritaville hotel. Normally that would sound like a touristy nightmare but the place is actually really awesome and usually not busy at all.
McGuire's is a place ya gotta eat at at least once.
As for food on the island, I'd avoid the places on the boardwalk IMO (Hemingway's, Flounders) and Crab's as well. Very mediocre food for the price. The Grand Marlin is probably the best seafood place, although it's pretty pricy. Peg Leg Pete's and Sideline's on the island are pretty decent for cheaper places.
Really, though, I'd recommend sticking to the mainland for dinner. Tons of great places downtown to eat like Dharma Blue, Hub Stacey's, The Tin Cow, Global Grill (probs need a reservation for this one), Five Sisters Blues Cafe. Lots of cool bars downtown too like Hopjacks, 5 and a Half, O'Reilly's, World of Beer.

if you're buying groceries, Apple Market is a cool local place.
