MinPins are awesome.

I don't know if I would go this far. My family has one, it's a good dog but kind of annoying and yappy. They live for like 20 years too

For the most part. I have a shady porch and will be getting it a doghouse, but it will have to be outside due to my SO's allergies. Her family has had an outdoor only dog for 13 years and she's still going strong.

Is that a problem?

It eliminates several really cool breeds like Huskies and pugs.

Very alert, all the time. Mostly bark and no bite (at least mine is), but people on the other side of the door think she's ferocious.

It's not a problem. I would just be sure you find one whose personality would be better suited for outdoors.

My dog would hate living outside all the time. The rescue organization he came from, he stayed inside most of the time. And in his prior life he had with the owners that abandoned him, he was a lap dog, sleep in the bed kinda dog. He would never have adjusted to outside life.

I'm kinda worried about finding a dog with the right temperament for it. Growing up, all of our dogs were indoor/outdoor. They were outside when no one was home, but were inside with us much of the time when we were home and slept inside.

I wouldn't have wanted him to. He deserved a life to live indoors and be happy and sleep in beds and such. He does like sunbathing though, he does that in the living room a lot.

Australian Cattle Dog (i.e. Blue Heeler)

Great dogs. Mine is a little over 2 years old. Like with border collies, you do have to wear them out, though. Lots of energy.

We adopted a German Shepherd/Blue Heeler mix 4 months ago and she has more energy than I ever knew was possible!

But she's been the best freaking dog. Super smart and motivated to learn and follows us like a shadow, protects the house from any outside disturbance

ETA: the perfect size, too. Only about 35-50lbs max

I agree 100% about border collies. We have two and as soon as we place our foster lab/rot mix (any takers?), we will get a third.

shih tzus are hypoallergenic. Mine only sheds hair like a human would, actually even less than that. They are also very chill dogs, but can learn tricks if you have the time to teach them. We cut his hair every 3 months and keep it pretty short except for his tail.

I have considered this, but one of my best friends has a Yorkie and it's cute, but super annoying and wets itself whenever it's frightened or excited, which is 90% of the time that it's not currently eating or sleeping.
