Do yourself a favor and get yourself prepared for the aapg student conference. Start looking for summer internships in August.

Threadhack://

What does the student conference involve?... I have camp next summer, graduated in Oceanography from LSU a few years ago and never took geology field camp while there.

I'm pretty blind to most that goes on at ULL in the geology grad department. I'm currently just trying to get my LGS and AAPG memberships set up right now.

I'm working for a big-private right now for the summer doing interpretation work.

Any advice for looking for a part-time job while in school?

Hack off://

There are a handful of companies in town that you could work at, but it's somewhat difficult to get a part time job. Not impossible, but not easy. Your best bet is to meet with Dr. Lock ASAP and let him know your intentions. Go to meetings and talk to people; make friends with other students who might be able to help.

Companies that hire part time workers include Stone, petroquest, core lab, and some independent geologists.

And they generally take interns by recommendation. Not knowing anyone, you sort of need to be at the right place at the right time.

I have know people that have connections with people at stone and petroquest. Guess I'm just going to have to start pressing their buttons for some help/emails.
