Solid job is in Houston (where I'm from), but really good job would be in Shreveport. I'm from BR originally before moving to and eventually growing up (for the most part) in Houston, so I'd be able to be near my family too

ETA: Would it look terrible to work for that company for a few years then make the move if the opportunity is standing?

Take the job in Shreveport because the cost of living is lower, the pay is higher, and it will presumably lead to increased opportunities and a higher ceiling later on. There's an old saying about Louisiana cities that says: "If you're not having fun in Shreveport, you're not trying very hard. If you're not having fun in Baton Rouge, you're not trying. If you're not having fun in New Orleans, you're dead."

Trust me, no one takes a big job in Shreveport to stay there. That Shreveport job will prove to be a great opportunity to prove yourself before they move you on to bigger and better things in bigger and better cities.
