Based on the Beta pricing I have seen you won't even come close to paying $60 unless you plan on playing renting the game for a year.

Welp.

Doesn't look like much has changed.

Buying the games used at a retail store would be cheaper then renting these games for 90 days

Well I stand corrected then. I apparently didn't look closely enough.

Based on your article, a lot needs to change before this becomes viable.

Only thing that angers me about these articles is that people don't realize that PS NOW is not a PS4 application. It's an application that will be running on Smart TVs, Vitas, and smartphones as well. How much it costs at Gamestop is completely irrelevant.

Article also doesn't mention that publishers are the ones setting prices. Sony definitely needs to implement some policy changes on these prices to keep games from being too expensive.

The good news is that they are looking into a subscription based model (like Netflix). Hopefully then can keep the price down on that.

I could have swore that a subscription service like Netflix was how this was supposed to go down initially. It would make more sense. Why would we pay $39.99 to rent a game for 90 days when we could go to gamestop and pick said game up for $19.99 and keep it as long as we want?

ETA: Case in point - Nascar '14 is $39.99 to RENT for 90 days on PS Now. It is $39.99 BRAND NEW in gamestop, and $37.99 (without being a power up reward member) used. Anyone who 'rents' a game off there is stupid as shite.

That is simply retarded.

I was kind of hoping that Sony would have a Netflix style program since they passed on the EA deal, but this is even worse

I mean I know it is still Beta and all, but is anyone at Sony actually looking at these prices, specifically when a game is renting for the same price it is to buy it.

They have made comments about prices not being final. It will be interesting to see.

Breakdown of Pricing
Raised some good points about how some of them are reasonable and others are just ridiculous.

No Demon's Soul or Dark Souls 1 / 2.

What do you think they should mirror for time based pricing? Redbox is $2/day for games and Blockbuster was $6-8/week for a game. Gamefly is $15/month for one game?

Obviously a sub model like Gamefly would be best.

The pricing really is idiotic. They really should go to a subscription based system.

I don't know really. I don't rent games so it's just never been an interest of mine. I don't understand why they have a 4 hour rental though. To me the minimum should be 1 day.

You bought the PS4 for PS Now?

I didn't even know this existed until this thread.

I've rented probably more than I should've just because I'm eager to try this service out. Dead or Alive 5 was perfectly playable. Ninja Gaiden 3 was a mess. Lost Planet 2 was also playable.

There's definitely a tiny delay from when you press a button to when an action registers on screen. On my end it's not even half a second but you'd be surprised how sluggish that feels when playing something like Ninja Gaiden 3 which requires split second movement. Sigma 2 is also for rent on that service, and I couldn't imagine playing that.

I think the service will be great for any games that do not require split second timing or precise aim. For this reason, I'm hesitant to try an FPS.

Connecting to PSN at 10-11Mb/s, but I'm also on WiFi.

That's still better than the average which makes it concerning.
