We already have marriage defined. A segment of society wants to re-define it.
When exactly was it defined? The definition of marriage has continuously changed throughout the course of human history.

I'll ask again: How is aAnderson's argument any different than when pro-slavery people claimed that no rights were being denied because slaves do not fit eh definition of "people", and only people have rights?

Toddy, I know you mean that with the utmost of sincerity. But you are wrong. It has not been defined over and over again. That is simply a talking point offered by those in your position.

The definition of marriage has continuously changed throughout the course of human history.
I am not a history buff, but I would like to see an historical example of a marriage that was NOT between a man and woman.
I am pretty sure that many marriages were arranged for financial benefits between 2 families or even within a family, such as cousins marrying. I doubt very seriously that any of these arrangements involved Bill and Bob, because they could not procreate and off spring was a way to grow the family fortune.
Yes, marriage has changed over time but it has always been between a man and woman, or many women.

It was defined in this country by scientific evidence that it is the best thing for the population to have a man and women have children and raise them. A man and woman are scientifically required.
Many things are decided are best for society by liberals and conservatives. Checkpoints for cars, smoking is bad, etc...
FWIW, I am for government getting out of marriage totally. No one should get better benefits because they are married. A single person shouldn't be discriminated against. It should be contract law related.
