Motherwell should be investigated for match fixing by UEFA

Motherwell, who consistently end up second in Scotland, have now gone 10 matches without a win in European competition.
Before somebody comes in and says "Scotland sucks," Scottish clubs outside of Motherwell and Hibs (embarrassed last year before getting relegated), normally do at least decently in the early playoff rounds (this year St. Johnstone and Aberdeen have advanced). Before McCall became manager, even Motherwell performed well in Europe.
This season deserves special attention. They played Icelandic club Stjarnan (sp?), a part-time club whose matches are played in a public park. Over the two legs, Motherwell Midfielder Lasley conceded three penalties.
Why are they match fixing? The pre-group rounds of UEFA competitions cost more money to clubs than they bring in. Motherwell has decided that going out early is better than going out later. They also know that UEFA won't look into them. It's shameful. UEFA, do your job.

So it's match fixing to just tank early and save their squad for Scottish Cups and League play? Maybe they don't have to depth (or money required to create the depth) to effectively play a European schedule as well as their normal schedule.

In any case, Rangers will be back after this season, and they'll be right up there with you after a couple more. So you won't have to bitch about Motherwell anymore.

Um...it's pretty common to field a lesser squad in cup competitions. Granted, most teams don't do so for European competitions, but prioritizing competitions is not the same as match fixing. It's impossible to send out your best XI every week. If any governing body took steps to require a team to do so in their competitions that would be ridiculous.

So basically what you're saying is I should bet heavily against Motherwell
