Now, if you want to talk about the child aspect of it, I have a huge problem with that.
Why?

Not a consenting adult.
Although, I do believe that the current 18 year old standard for consent (for most things) is wrong.
I don't believe that someone less than 14-15 years old can make an informed decision about marriage.

Oh, you mean underage women getting married. Totally different issue.
Posted on 7/26/14 at 10:30 am to RogerTheShrubber
Yep. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

DOMA was reversed last year so it's been recently relevant.
Biden, along with Obama, claim to have "changed their minds" on the issue. You may say they've transformed. I may say they are politically expedient.
So, who'd be the bigger hypocrite, Santorum asking for a picture for his kids or Biden?

Well, yeah..when you said child aspect, I assumed it was the children born into the marriage(s)
Posted on 7/26/14 at 10:36 am to RogerTheShrubber
My fault. I was thinking about Big Love and 5 year olds getting married when I typed that. Hence, the "child aspect."

On a positive note Rex, I am not a fan. Does that balance it out?
Posted on 7/26/14 at 10:39 am to FalseProphet
Nah, it's all good.
I don't think most plural marriage families marry kids but I'm not in favor of it. I have no problem with gay marriage or plural marriage.
If I could find a half dozen women to work while I fish and hike, I'm all over that.

I don't either. If consenting adults want to enter that arrangement, whether it's gay or plural marriage, they should be allowed to do so.
EtA: Back on point, Santorum hates freedom in public, but apparently enjoys it in private.

The number of false assumptions in that one short statement by Rex is a pretty good representation of the faulty logic employed by most liberals (and others).
1) It's quite possible to enjoy a t.v. show without approving of every action or moral position of the characters.
2) It's even possible to enjoy a t.v. show in which you don't approve of the general theme of the show, but still enjoy the interaction of the characters or the story lines.
3) It's possible to oppose gay marriage without being anti-gay. In fact, that was the default position of most liberals until fairly recently.

Never heard of such craziness rex . Thanks for showing us all that here in our corner of the universe we have found a being that can hold two opposing ideas at the same time.
Wow........
Hey go do some research rex and report back but I heard a rumor...just a crazy unbelivable rumor that a person was found that didn't like hunting but ate meat. Crazy I know but go research this and get back to us. I'm sure its not true but you are the one to dig up the real story.

According to Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet, Republican presidential nominee also-ran Rick Santorum was at the White House Correspondents Dinner and approached him for a picture with himself and his kids. Stonestreet, who’s character on the show is openly gay, said it was never going to happen.
Few issues.
Huffington Post. Dubious.
Corroborating accounts from other witnesses? Pictures with the children that show Stonestreet did in fact refuse the request but took the picture with the children?
Never mentioned he was a fan of the show (according the article itself).
Very, very disingenuous of you Rex. Sad.
Or, to put it another way...
Wolfhound45 was in the Tidewater area attending the military retirement of a colleague (which I will be soon) and ran into Rex. Rex asked for a picture with him but Wolfhound45 refused, saying he would only take a picture with the lovely Mrs Rex and Maggie.
No witnesses. No photo. No supporting evidence. But it is the truth (or will be in the future).
ETA: Because I said. And Rex is a mean person who hates conservatives. And stuff.

It's a tv show, it's fantasy. I don't understand the big deal. I enjoy some war movies but hate war.
Posted on 7/26/14 at 10:52 am to RogerTheShrubber
It's not a big deal at all. It's a Rex thread, and should be treated as such.
But, for someone so vocally opposed to gay marriage to enjoy a show where two gay men are central characters, it's odd. I understand your war movie analogy, but I don't think you've ever decried war as a plague on humanity and then willingly sat down to watch a war movie.

Well, I think most of us agree that it is.
Santorum is awful, but I don't see any issue at all with him enjoying a tv show even if it contains a lifestyle he may not agree with. Fake outrage seems to be the new fad.

I think we're blurring the lines between Rex and Toddy in this thread.

But they aren't free to have the same piece of paper you have?
It's immoral? Why?
ETA: this assumes state involvement. If it's only church involvement, they are free to do what they want.
