I love Cabin in the Woods, but it's Scream. First off, Scream works better as a straight horror movie. The characters in cabin are, by design, archetypes and become less and less real people. Scream has legitimate stakes and is grounded in the real world, not a giant metaphor for the movie going public. And as people point out, the opening scene is outstanding and legitimately shocking.
Scream is a legit critique of how horror movies operate. Cabin in the Woods is a bit more global, and extends to how movies are made and the viewing audience. I think Scream's tighter focus, and more human elements, make it a better satire and a better horror film. It's pretty much the perfect horror movie. It even knows what the audience wants and kills Rose McGowan pretty quickly. Thanks, Wes Craven!

Tucker and Dale vs Evil at least needs some consideration
damn i liked that movie. much more overt.
that's the difference btwn scream and cabin. i think scream is a little more overt in their nods to the audience. but not much.
enjoyed the hell out of both.
scream focused more on "killer on the loose" thing while cabin focused on everything else.

There have been a lot of "and it isn't even close" praises for both movies in here
