i havent been since '08. do they have "official" parties or bars where people go after the con? im sure most of the talent runs and hides in their hotel rooms. but sometimes editors and writers go out and are kind of accessible.

It depends...a few actors were out and about signing autographs in the hall h over night camper lines. A lot of them go to "corporate" events at night.
After the con closes its doors (7 for the exhibition hall and for the most part 9 for the panels). The place empties out into the gaslamp district. Which is pretty much wall to wall bars that do stupid crazy business. There are also parties held by game companies, movie companies etc that you can attend. I also saw a movie premiere which was cool to do (the producer and a few of the actors addressed us before they rolled the film).
Really it just depends what you want from it and how you go about it.
