It's definitely on my bucket list, how far in advance do you need to buy tickets?

That is the real catch.

Getting passes is as much luck as anything.

My first year I got lucky and got a pass for just one day in a ticket resale (returns). After that I am in the "system" which allows me to purchase passes in the presale auction to people who attended the previous year. That doesn't guarantee you a pass for every day and I ended up with just 3 days (thur fri and sat). Once the presales are done then the opening the remaining ones to the general public. This year they were gone in an hour. (I had a buddy who tried and failed to get one).

You have to be persistent but you can get in.

The year we went my wife enjoyed going even more than I did.

Our strategy for lines was to see everything on the main floor over the first couple of days and then camp out for Hall H on Saturday and just spend the day in there so that we'd have good seats for the important films.

i havent been since '08. do they have "official" parties or bars where people go after the con? im sure most of the talent runs and hides in their hotel rooms. but sometimes editors and writers go out and are kind of accessible.
