Honestly, I don't care about talking you into like the show...because I barely liked it.

Liked Hope, that's about it...and the premise was interesting...because it was the first to exist solely in the adult stratosphere.

But like when people use Ironic as "coincidence" - I think exposing people to actual definitions to improve dialogue and understanding is important.

Sportscasters keep repeating ironic as a synonym for coincidence and people like you keep using "pretentious" for a cultural thing they disagree with - that isn't seen as rooted, simple or down home...ergo, snobby or cultured becomes "pretentious" or effete when that isn't remotely what it means.

The point of 30-something was to get away from adolescent "problems" in TV shows...and crap which we have seen this last decade in movies - Apatow effect.

Those adolescent problems are pretentious. 30 Something was adult life.

Do you really think that's how I mean that word? Without actually looking up the dictionary definition, which I've been waiting for you to post, I mean it in the sense of someone who reads Bertrand Russel, not because he actually likes it, but so he can augment his repertoire of superficial intellectuality.

The 80s was the most pretentious decade of all time, IMO. I think there might have been 5 or 6 people who actually enjoyed all of the fads back then. The rest was just mass conformism for personal gain and social acceptance.

What's your definition?
