IDK, i think they had to have replaced them

I was talking about the group that did this, they were saying that someone did something to the original flags while they were on the pole. They didn't take them down when they did it. The cops definitely took them down to replace them.

They were saying it was paint yesterday. You can tell in this screen cap it is the original flag.

I am going to disagree. I don't think they could have altered the flying flags that completely. These guys planned this enough to get up there and get away without being seen. I think they could have planned to take the flags down and replace them. Do you have any evidence to support your conclusive statements that they did something to the flying flags or are you just one of those folks on the Internet who makes definitive statements with no evidence because you think that's the way it happened?

i think it would be easier to pre bleach/paint a flag and carry it in a backpack up there rather than carrying a bunch of paint and brushes and going to town. Not to mention drying time.

there really arent a lot of logical thinkers on this site.

Yeah, looks too perfect to be done on the fly.

This is just what they were saying on the news yesterday. They said flags are suppose to be pretty hard to change, that they do not have a raise/lower system and the clips that keep them to the pole are supposed to pretty beefy to prevent something like cutters getting them off.

They could of easily cut the material part of the flag off though.

seems like a lot of security on top of a freakin bridge pier. Did the news tell you this too?

ETA1: think about it. if you leave a flag up in the elements/weather for an extended time period it will fade and deteriorate. Im assuming they rotate new flags in at some points. So there is a way to change them out.

ETA2: Look at the pic you posted. you can clearly see rings the flag is attached to and a cord going to the top of the flag poll to lower the flag.

Well it's a landmark, it's going to be a bit more secure to try and prevent vandalism like this.

I found a video of them taking down the white flags, it appears they secured the white flag with some kind of rope method vs the original clips.

They have climbers that remove them via the clips. Not sure if they lock or not. If they do it's still not impossible to cut through the clips, especially with the battery operated saws we have now.

you dont think getting on the cables and scaling them isnt enough? I mean im sure there is security near the bottom of those.

Alcatraz didnt have subs patrolling the bay or mins in the water when it was a prison. The bay was enough to deter escape attempts.

So someone who wanted to switch flags couldn't buy rope to hang the new flags instead of climbing up there again to put up the white flags with clips?

You can see the rings on the pole itself where the flag attaches to the pole.

Whoever did this didn't hang white sheets from the flagpole, they hung bleached white American flags and it is important to know that.

Please tell me what bleached American flags means.

Do you know the meaning of waving a white flag?

I think it was genius.
