Why the ATF in particular? That is a rare one to hate I'm partial to it b/c my cousin works with them and strangely enough, the DEA pulls him in to work with them on some crazy clandestine projects which I'm not privy to naturally.

If you can just lose the Flash outfit and put him in a Dog suit, with "human hands," that would be the funniest thing ever posted on this board.

Governement agency e-mail servers used to only be able to hold 150 MB, and when that filled up, you had to move e-mails to your hard drive.

I know this because I bumped up to this limit several times. It adds up quick when you throw around 20 MB files.

When you get to this limit, you have to archive them on your hard drive.

That was 10 years ago. Since then most agencies have expanded mailboxes to 5-10 GB or more and utilize archive solutions on top of that for FOIA and other legal requirements.

This Lerner BS is a bunch of IRS people trying to cover their asses.

The damaged HD meme should raise suspicion even among the biggest deniers out there.

It was always BS.

How does the hard drive get scratched?

Most probable cause is from the actuator arm. The real question is how did they know it was scratched? You would have to open the case which is contained in a sealed sterile environment to physically look at the platters. You wouldn't do that unless you were in a "clean room" and were prepared to do the type of data recovery they apparently stated they were unwilling to do.

This leads me to believe that it was conjecture at this point that it was "scratched". Either way they acknowledged what most in the IT industry already knew, that at least some if not all the data could have been recovered.

This. And the chance of that happening is about that of winning the lottery.

I like giving the benefit of doubt when something comes across as plausible because it's just too damned depressing to always be so cynical. Because of that I was willing to give some credit as to the "damaged" hdd excuse because it's one I have encountered (from the IT end) a few times (but in the last 5-ish years at this job I can count those instances on one hand, maybe two). But once they started getting into multiple people's computers who were tied into this, that became too much to believe.

And now a "scratch"? No. Just... no.

mechanical failure, the heads can actually touch the disk surface..

and there aren't more than a couple of GOPpers that don't hate the Tea party more than the donks, so no, nothing will happen.

it's not even remotely believable if you have any practical hardware experience in the IT industry, had they gone w/ the "we replaced our PC's while upgrading and the old one's didn't get backed up properly", it would have been more believable. Human incompetence is the only real believable explanation here, but they wanted to blame the machines.

It's like trying to pass a forged letter from the 60's that was done on a WORD processor, only leftards would think they could get away with it.
