This isn't some crappy college town that needs a service to pick up drunk college kids.
I know, it's a drunk town on a much larger scale that deserves better cab service

Drivers for hire tie directly into the lifeblood of the city.
Exactly yet the city wants to rest on its laurels and continue to have shitty cab service even though it means so much to NOLA. Uber is going to make transportation exponentially better
quote:
The cab reforms have been met with heated resistance. The city can now leverage the cabbies with the uber service. Let's face it NOLA needs better taxis, hopefully this gets companies complying with new reforms.
There is not a single reform our government can enforce that will make it better than Uber…end of story…the cabs need to update their old business model.

We can't rely on some illegal service with part time drivers in this city.
link where Uber is illegally operating? And in NOLA since there is a need for cabs almost 24/7, there won't be an influx of part-timers like BR…there will be many many full-time jobs created…the part you are missing Wise is the taxi MARKET is SEVERELY underutilized in this city…there are MILLIONS & MILLIONS of dollars annually NOT being spent because the service sucks. Both Uber AND the Taxis will be able to survive easily.
The problem with the Taxis is once Uber gets other ride sharing services to enter the market (i.e. Lyft), the market will become saturated and if the taxis have not changed their systems by then, there's a good chance they will go out of business.
And please don't respond with the Taxi's striking…they can't afford to strike for more than 1 day and the impact Uber has on the city is significantly more beneficial than any taxi "strike" that occurs.

You guys should definitely strike:
London cabs strike over Uber; Uber sees an 850% increase in signups that same day
