Neither government nor the private market has shown much promise. The government spends close to 50 cents of every dollar that goes towards health expenditures in this country, covers around 30% of the people (medicaid and medicare), and spends the fourth highest per capita in health expenditures in the entire world. The private sector has also shown an inability to be cost effective and high quality.

No one complained about healthcare in this country way way back before the second world war, so I just don't know what went wrong. Could be a symptom of consumerism. We think we need to own and eat everything (metaphorically). Maybe that applies to healthcare. The average yankee uses too much of it because it is a consumer product.
