Agreed.

I have no issue with the statement or the sentiment. I get it.

But, let's PLEASE not suggest that Sams has no football accomplishments at all.

Yeah, but I bet he would have had no problem drafting Johnny football though, who is far worse of a person than Sam

And Manziel is a far better football prospect than Sam. The NFL is a results oriented business. If Sam had the ability of Jadaveon Clowney, the "gay" issue would not have been that big for NFL GMs. The reality is that Sam is a marginal NFL prospect whose sexual orientation brings in a lot of attention from people who care little to nothing about football. The burden of that extra attention that a coach/organization has to deal with likely doesn't = the on field benefit to the team. I understand why people would share Dungey's opinion.

Through ZERO fault of his own, Sam has the potential to disrupt a team. If he makes the Rams roster then he is looked at as a hero and will attract a ton of media attention for a guy who is really just a marginal player (See Tim Tebow) The Rams have a lot of very good DL, and I could certainly see them getting a bit perturbed at a backup getting the attention of a superstar.

If he is cut, then the questions/accusations from everyone outside of football will be that he was cut because he was gay. The Rams will be in an unenviable position of having to justify a purely football decision to throngs of rebel-rousers who do not, cannot, and will not believe the decision had nothing to do with the guys sexual orientation.

JM may be a pain in the arse, but he also brings the potential of helping a team win big. The potential reward outweighs the potential burden. The equation is just the opposite in Sam's case

He's also a great man. You should think of that fact before you jump to this nonsense.

I think Johnny is going to have the 'Tiger Woods' effect. Half of the people will view Browns FB as must see to watch him succeed. The other half will view Brown's FB to watch him fail. But he is going to be a HUGE draw.

OTOH, no one is gonna tune into Rams football to watch Michael Sams play 3 downs in the 4th quarter.

They only gave him that award because he was gay.

Coach Dungy is boarding the train to the re-education center as we speak.

Tony gets a pass since he is universally respected. And he does have a point, its going to be a distraction.

If he is still working for one of the broadcast companies he will be unemployed unless he apologizes.

If he was that good, then why did he not get drafted until the last round?

That was another feel good "title" given to him. Yes, he had something like 9 sacks. But 7 of those were in 2 games against very very shitty opponents.

I'm not saying he has none. He could kick my arse for sure. But he's not a pro-level talent, IMO. If he was just some other guy, he would not have gotten SEC Defensive player of the year. He would probably have been drafted in the same spot, and he would be out of the league in 3-5 years. His sexual orientation will keep him in the league a year or 2 past when he should be out.

Now if this guy proves me wrong, then i'll retract my statement. But he's not very strong, and not very smart, football wise.

Anyone that thinks Dungy is in trouble has a basic misunderstanding of how this kind of thing works.

The left uses potentially offensive statements to go after their enemies. It is all an exersize in disingenuousness. They don't go after anyone that says something potentially offensive because they are offended. They seize opportunities to go after individuals they already want to go after.

Dungy is not on that list so Dungy is free and clear.
