Is "the ole fashion way" enough to cover 50K in tuition plus living expenses? Plus leave time to, IDK, actually study?

How's it goin, O? Man, this is a really long thread and I haven't read it. But in terms of student loans, tuition, etc. The old fashioned way was:
a. pay for college
b. don't go to college
c. get a scholarship
My parents couldn't do 'a' and let me know when I was about 12 years old.
I studied really hard and went with 'c.' Living expenses were covered by something called 'work.' Started working at 12.
About 90% of my fellow students at Centenary went with 'a.' Because they had wealthy parents. Good for them. I never felt envious. Even though they could afford to join a fraternity and I could not. The rich kids always treated me with kindness and respect even though they knew I was dirt poor.
They even invited me to fraternity events that were closed to non members. I always thanked them but declined. My parents raised me to never accept charity. It was just one of those 'ole fashioned' things.
