It is.
When you were paying SS - you were paying for other people's SS. The people receiving benefits at the time.
In exchange for this, the law requires us younger people to pay your SS now.
And when I get old, the law requires people younger than me pay for mine.
This is true because when SS began - old people who had never paid into it became beneficiaries.
That's how it works. Pay as you go. Each generation taking care of the one who came before it.

1. Do not refer to me as 'the poster Zach.'.
2. Refer to me as 'Lord Zach, the taxpayer who pays for my welfare.'
3. Feel free to abbreviate that to TLZ.
