Non-farm employment in Louisiana increased by 19,200 jobs over the year that ended June 30.
Louisiana’s non-farm employed totaled more than 1.97 million last month, compared to more than 1.95 million a year earlier, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in preliminary figures.
Gains were recorded in every job sector except government, where a decrease of 6,800 occurred over the one-year period. Government employees totaled 335,100 last month, but topped out at 341,900 in June 2013.
The state’s June employment rate also was 1.1 percentage points lower than the nation’s. Louisiana’s unemployment rate also was the lowest of the five Gulf states last month.
