Why does everyone leave out Ronnie Feist? Mark it down, he will be starting somewhere before the season is over.

Doesn't he play SAM? if so he won't be starting over Kwon

Chief constantly plugs small, safety sized players in the LB position. It works OK against a majority of teams but not against the upper echelon competition.

Because he didn't play last season. At all. Not even on special teams

Feist was the best linebaker in spring and he still is not starting. What are the coaches seeing that I am not.

What? Last year the defense took a step back, but relatively speaking they still weren't THAT bad. Other than that, LSU has had a top notch defense under Chavis. shite, LSU won 9 and 10 games respectively in 2009 and 2010 with an offense that could barely complete a forward pass.

The smaller LBs struggle against teams employing a power running game between the tackles (see UGA and Bama from last season) but that has much more to do with the DL struggling. Even bigger LBs would have struggled last year with how poorly the DL played.

Finally, the voice of reason. Thanks for your contribution to the rant.

Freak Johnson specifically didn't pay attention to his gap assignments.

Great post. D line will always be the key to success. If they do their jobs, the back 7 can then do their jobs. When we have had great defenses, the d line was the key. Not as easy for the casual fan to see in real time, but I have a good feeling about Lacouture and Thomas inside this year, and Rasco and Hunter should be even better.

LSUS DT success has resulted keeping guys fresh and playing 4 and 5 guys. With our dominant DLS of the past, our 4 and 5th guys were as good as Lacouture and Thomas. We only talk about them bc they are the only two who have any playing time. Huge question mark. Need help from Bain, Gilmore, and others asap. We missed a year, maybe two of DT recruiting and we are seeing it. I have hopes that the young guys are ready

Gilmore and Herron both nursed minor injuries last season. Originally they were brought in with the intent of being in rotation behind Anthony and Ego. They knew Christian would need more time to develop so they played him more to get the reps in preparation for this year. Gilmore and Herron are now back to the form the staff expected and ready to contribute equally with Christian and QT. Bain has progressed as well.

With Gilmore and Herron as good as they are, it would have been a bad move to risk an injury for experience. These guys are very good.
