See, now the guys who are old enough to think about living instead of just their dick are chiming in.
The 9 girls 1 guy dudes are assuming that they'll be some sort of emperor. The reality of it is without societal conventions to reinforce their power they'd have no choice but threat of violence and once they exercised that...

Plus, have you ever spend a prolonged amount of time with a bunch of women?
I'd much rather hunt and fish and build stuff with buddies and have a woman to take care of urges.

I wasn't thinking with my dick.
The women would naturally look to the man as a natural leader (I assume this as I am the guy in my story. This might not be true if the guy was some quiet, passive, weakling). Also, most of the women would probably step up to the challenge at hand. They are also more quick to turn on someone not doing their part, so they would self-govern the whiny bitches in the group.
I didn't consider the potential for 9 Paris Hilton diva types, nor did I assume we could eventually find our way off the island. These variables might change my answer.
