They have been, but I'd be interested to see how that develops over time. Are the contracts going to be as lucrative down the road upon renewal as ratings dip for events like the World Series?

Yes. Have you seen the local TV deals being signed recently?

That is where baseball is very strong. A lot of people watch their own team play every night. It is not a great sport for casual viewing/national audience though.

I watch or attend every Braves game, but I couldn't tell you the last time I watched a full game that didn't involve the Braves.

Baseball is doing fine, you guys saying otherwise don't know what you're talking about.

America is going to be a lot browner in 20 years, so soccer will continue to rise. Heard a probably meaningless stat, but still thought it was interesting. If you add up the twitter followers of all of the 2014 MLB all stars, it was I think half as many as Lebron has.

Pretty meaningless, but still a bit surprising. Jeter doesn't have a twitter, I'm sure he'd have a good 10 million followers if he did.

Yay, another thread to bitch about Soccer not being watched enough and deposit the opinion that baseball is dying.

I don't care for either sport, so nice job of reading comprehension.

This same thread has been argued at least 15 gazillion times since the World Cup started. It has nothing to do with reading comprehension, it's about beating the shite out of a dead horse. I'm sorry you don't know how to operate the search feature.

Baseball is dying!

Baseball Fans: No, it's not!

Soccer Fans: WE MATTER DAMMIT, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW POPULAR IT WILL BE.

Baseball Fans: Yeah well prove it.

Soccer Fans: World Cup ratings and local stadium attendances SON.

Baseball Fans: Yeah well, we have ratings.

RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE.

Then you always have one guy who goes well none of my friends watch baseball, therefore it's about to die!

Then you have the person who mentions all the Hispanics coming into the country liking soccer, but conveniently forgetting half of MLB IS Hispanics.

Living in the area myself, I can tell you why the Sounders are popular. It's very simple:

The Mariners suck.

The Seahawks haven't started playing yet.

The Supersonics left and are now the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In this area, here's the popularity of the local teams:

1. Seahawks
2. Huskies
3. Sounders
4. Mariners

Since 1 and 2 haven't started playing yet...

So... your position is that 67,000 people showed up Sunday night, because in a metro area of 3.5M people - they just couldn't find shite else to do?

And that 40,000 people wander into CenturyLink week in and week out, just bored to tears and praying that something might be happening there?

I don't get upset at message boards, life is too short.

Now video games, I'll have a mini stroke.

Soccer may generate only one or two goals a game, but at least the action doesn't stop.

The best thing about soccer is that the clock doesn't stop. I like knowing that games times won't vary from 2-4 hours.
