I actually like baseball and played my whole life. But I can think of 100 things I'd rather be doing at any given time than watching baseball.

Just out of curiosity, what does that have to do with people being threatened by it?

We were in one of the hardest groups with the eventual World Cup winner. Not very many people picked us to make it out of group play. We had a great chance to make it to the quarter finals. Our country as a whole doesn't focus on soccer, so the fact that we did what we did is even more impressive.

ANd you didn't really answer the question you quoted FYI.

I'd rather watch live lacrosse than the endless NFL rumor mill that ESPN is for 9 months out of the year.

Then go watch live lacrosse....

Have the TV ratings come out yet?

I found it for buffalo and it out drew the nhl finals which featured a NY team. Did better than the World Series too.

Seems like espn made a smart move

Made it out of the group of death. I don't think anyone is really saying the team is anything special. 13-5-2 was the record this cycle if I'm correct.

Agree

However, outside of the US in the world cup, i can say the same about soccer at this moment in time...

I think that is the vast opinion of soccer

That's my opinion of all sports, including soccer 90% of the time. We'd be a lot better off as a nation if more people felt that way.

Number of viewers has nothing to do with something being the best. Biggest but not the best.

Avatar and Titanic are the highest grossing / most watched in theater movies of all time. Does that make them the best? No because best is subjective.

I find it hard to believe that a significant portion of America yesterday cared what happened in a soccer game between two far away countries located on other sides of the world than our own. But if you paid attention to ESPN you'd think that the entire nation was shut down in order to watch.

FWIW, in Atlanta the bars were slammed. We had to go to a couple just to find standing room.

No, you're about to see more MLS games as well as the European clubs' preseason tours.

I've always despised the flopping and the lack of goals, but I've respected the sport more over the years. I enjoyed this past WC.

Not a big soccer fan but I have actually enjoyed the World Cup since paying attention to the 1994 World Cup in Chicago. It breaks up the monotonous long drawn out major league baseball season that ESPN shoves down everyone's throats all summer.
