Bill Masters is one of the most unlikable characters I have ever seen. If this is how he really was, I don't understand how anybody wanted to be around him. He is a POS. I am trying to think of one redeeming quality about him as shown in the show.
But the show is really good, great writing and acting. The scene with Bridges last night was fantastic. And of course, Lizzy being naked is a bonus

He's definitely become that, but he was somewhat sympathetic last season. Some of his dickiness could be explained by his singular drive (the study). Bear in mind that last season he did do some rather noble things (e.g., the "help" he gave to the new immigrant wife to protect her, and her "future" kids, from her husband; the black patient).
His behavior in S2:1 was repulsive, but then his life had completely turned to shite, so that may be an explanation. I expect he will soften as the season goes on, but not by a lot.
And naked Lizzy...
