I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router and a Netgear wireless extender: LINK
I turn the extender on to provide coverage for the whole house when we have visitors and turn it off when they leave.
With my G wireless router I get roughly 27 Mbps downloads which match my Internet service plan well. Users that connect to the wireless extender get roughly 13.5 Mbps.
