If we traded Ely/Babbit to Cleveland for Gee and then Gee to Houston, would that make a difference ie MLE?

Not if we want to keep Rivers. We still need to send out $5.5 million to get Asik.

A poster on PR seems to think we could do this:

quote:

NOP out:
Ely
Babbitt
Roberts (S&T)
Protected 1st
Cash

NOP in:
Asik
---
HOU out:
Asik

HOU in:
NOP protected 1st
Gee (waived)
---
CLE out:
Gee

CLE in:
Pelicans cash
Ely (waived)
Babbitt (waived)
---
Fourth team out:
Nothing

Fourth team in:
Roberts (around $2.5M)
Cash
---
We keep Rivers, MLE, BAE, and Bird rights to Smith and Aminu.

We will see.

I guess if we're just taking him on via cap space, then both exceptions go bye-bye.

We should still have the BAE. The CBAFAQ said you put each exception on your cap like a hold. So the MLE is the only one we have to renounce to take on Gee. We'd still have the BAE.

Could involve Aminu as well, as long as it gets to that $2.5 million mark. Obviously, the value would be to see Roberts go while using MLE on a starting SF with maybe Aminu as the backup.

You could certainly do that, but that involves a S&T of one of our FAs, that was always a way to avoid trading Rivers. Although turning Babbit/Ely into Gee does make Roberts being the S&T candidate more viable.

When Pelicans get Gee, they can complete deal for Asik and the Rockets next big piece to clear space for Chris Bosh. — Brian Windhorst (@WindhorstESPN) July 11, 2014

The math is still short, but it is really close. CBA FAQ Outgoing salary Maximum incoming salary $0 to $9.8 million 150% of the outgoing salary, plus $100,000

Assuming it is Gee + Ely + Babbitt

Luke Babbitt no longer on the #Pelicans summer league roster. Team updated it today. — Garland Gillen (@garlandgillen) July 11, 2014

($3,000,000 + $1,316,809 + $981,084) x 150% + $100,000 = $8,046,839.50 Asik’s cap hit is $8,374,646. Would have to include Withey or (ideally) get Scotty Hopson off Cleveland’s hands as well. Hopson’s unguaranteed contract is $1,450,878 and New Orleans could (hypothetically) keep Babbitt and sent out just Gee, Ely, and Hopson.

So this whole thing working out while being able to keep Rivers potentially comes down to Scotty Hopson being involved?

NBA is crazy.

Is that official? Aren't the Heat now offering him more money?

yet there were people on the MSB, not a lot, but a few, who were adamant that lebron was NOT holding anything up with his decision.
