I don't want to hijack their thread so I'll just say this. None of these contracts you mentioned are handicapping this franchise, injuries are. In the future, 4-5 years down the road when their skills start diminishing, yes it will and their contracts will look ugly. But that's a case every team goes through when signing high price free agents.
If the Rangers wanted to rebuild, it would be a very quick process. There is a good mixture of MLB talent(young and old), rising MILB talent on the horizon, and a staff ace to build around. A healthy rotation would be all this team needs.
We may be cellar dwelling right now, but this isn't a team that needs 5-10 years to rebuild. This has been a lost season, but this team isn't anywhere close to being finished.
Sorry for the hijack.

Neither is Houston.

With the capability of adding payroll, I wouldn't suggest otherwise.

GM Rule #1: if you have what you think is a bad contract (Ian), you don't swap it for a longer, more expensive bad contract (Prince). How is it that Prince wasn't worth signing as a FA two years prior, yet two years of declining production later, he's worth trading for? And this doesn't factor in that Ian's replacement (Profar) hasn't shown a whole lot at the MLB level. Ian was traded based on Profar's potential, which is dangerous enough, and worse given what came in return.
GM Rule #2: you don't give large contracts to players unless they can hit both lefties and righties (Choo). 7/$130M for someone who, in an injury-free world, would have to be platooned with Michael Choice?
And this doesn't include the Elvis deal (which I thought was good, but sadly is proving to be yet another in the albatross collection).
Oh and the "staff ace" can't give the bullpen any rest because he can't finish games, and he can't help gain ground on the division leader because he can't beat them.
This team has way more holes than you want to believe.

the extensive amount of viewing UVA baseball should have told us all that same thing.

tickfaw mad that the Astros aren't the worst team in baseball.
Just think tickfaw, once the Astros are competitive again, you can go back to scalping those tickets.

Thanks for the heads up...got rid of my season tickets years ago. No more semi-pro baseball for me, and not for selling anyway. Used tickets as a business write off/entertainment and eventually NO-ONE wanted to attend the crappy games !.....lol
Just out of curiosity, just WHEN do you figure the astros will be truly "competitive"...I mean, in the running for playoff spots ???? 3,4,6 or 7 yrs. ?
