Agreed. I listened to an interview a few years ago with John Fox, who was asked why he didn't take a year off after getting canned by the Panthers. He said that one year away from the NFL is an eternity in terms of how the game changes, and that it's difficult to readjust.

While guys like Cowher and Gruden carry name recognition, they'd both be awful hires at this point. Think about it this way -- Gruden has been out of the league for practically the entire Aaron Rodgers era, and Cowher has been out for practically the entire Brees era in New Orleans.
